Le Monde special issue

In Western nation-states, the cultural imaginary has long assigned women to the domestic sphere, setting them up as silent guarantors of social continuity. A direct descendant of this ideological matrix, the figure of the tradwife emerged in the early 2010s in the virtual circles of the American alt-right - notably on Reddit and 4chan - before flooding social networks a decade later, driven by the rise of the «momosphere», a digital universe dedicated to family, motherhood and gender.
